My Guests,

I would like to take you, each and every one of you, who has shown utmost loyalty to “Krishna”, on a walk down memory lane, and narrate the story of how our business originated, evolved and took its unique place and status in the ever-changing and demanding world of jewellery making.

In the early 1900’s, my grandfather, late Shri Unniyattil Kuttan Menon, at the age of 27, decided to open a jewellery store in the small town of Thrissur, Kerala. He started his modest business with three or four goldsmith artisans who worked day and night for him, catering to the local community. They painstakingly created beautiful handcrafted jewellery, replicated the magnificence and richness of the royal heirloom, and the exquisite ornaments worn by the aristocratic Namboodiri women. This jewellery shop, being one of the first to be opened in the locality, brought in professionalism and accountability to the business of jewellery making and was well appreciated by the locals.

My grandfather’s strong business acumen and his utmost diligence to maintain the purity and perfection in his jewellery helped the business grow and earn him a name not only amongst the traditional households of Kerala, but also among Malayalees settled in the distant lands of Malaysia and Singapore as he started exporting jewellery to these countries. His reputation and stature grew to the extent where his competitors used to vouch on the purity of his products and readily accept old jewellery from my grandfather’s outlet in place of money from their own clients.

My father, late Shri M.R. Menon, fondly remembered as ‘Thankappa Menon’, by his friends and long list of well-wishers, on his father’s sudden demise, had to take the mantle of the business on his shoulders at a very young age. He embellished the name and glory of his father’s business during the long 45 years of his service. He successfully steered the family business to make it one of the most prestigious and sought after one in Thrissur, which had by then become a bustling commercial town and was called the “gold capital of India”, with hundreds of gold showrooms, big and small, spread all over the town.

When the time of his retirement came, an idea of opening a store exclusively for traditional and handcrafted Kerala jewellery germinated in my father’s mind. In 1999, with the full support of his trusted craftsmen who had stayed with him for two generations and the encouragement from his clients, he opened “Krishna”- a store exclusively for handcrafted Kerala jewellery which showcases and nurtures the beauty and lustre of our traditional ornaments.

Today, I have been handed over the great responsibility of carrying forward my family legacy which has stayed with us for more than a century now.

At present, when more and more people are going back to exploring their roots and breathing life to our long forgotten culture and lifestyle, the demand for these ethnic designs is fast mounting. And it is my driving passion to make “Krishna”, a name synonymous to our heritage and culture. What we give is not just a piece of jewellery for you but a statement- of what you are and where you belong.

So, if you have been long dreaming of owning that exquisite “Kasumala” or the aristocratic “Nagapadam” your great grandmother used to once proudly wear, don’t hesitate, have a leisurely glimpse of Krishna’s rich repertoire.

We are waiting to make your dream a reality.
